St. Michael's Church is located

in Church Square, Cwmafan, SA12 9AP.

The old ecclesiastical name for the parish was Llanfihangel Ynys Afan which translates into English as The Church dedicated to St. Michael standing in the pasture lands of Afan.

In 1563 the area became a parish in its own right and started keeping records for the Parish of Michaelstone Super Afan. The Parish of Cwmafan is also known as the Parish of Michaelston-super-Avon.

There are references to a church in the area dedicated to St. Michael dating back to the 12th century.
