St. Michael's Belles

St. Michael's Belles meet at the Church Hall every Thursday evening at 7.30 p.m.

Do you like live music? Here is your opportunity to make music for yourself. A group of ladies and gentlemen who enjoy playing bell plates and are looking for enthusiastic new members to join in. No musical knowledge is necessary; we learn as we go under the tutelage of Vicar Helen.

It's all done by colours, so long as you can differentiate between green and red (and left from right) you can't fail. Do come along for a relaxing, enjoyable evening in good company. Beaux are not excluded! Age is not a barrier. All are welcome.

Why not come along and enjoy something new and different

Bible Study,

The Bible Study group meets in the hall on a Wednesday night for what is generally a lively two hour session. During 2007/08 we have concentrated on: The weekly Eucharist readings; the letters of St Paul; The Book of Joshua; and the Anglicans in World Mission Lent course entitled “love One Another”.

During 2007/08 we concentrated on: The weekly Eucharist readings; the letters of St Paul; The Book of Joshua; and the Anglicans in World Mission Lent course entitled “Love One Another”.

  • The weekly Eucharist readings gave us the opportunity to reflect on and discuss the passages from the Sunday Service.

  • The letters of Saint Paul enabled us to gain a vital insight into the early years of the church and its teachings. Debate and dissention in the life of the church is nothing new.

  • The Book of Joshua provoked strong reaction from the class, forcing us to view the history of our religion in a different way.

  • Finally, the Anglicans in World Mission Lent course gave us a view of life in a less developed country, and one where Christians are a very small minority.

We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Church Hall. Newcomers are always welcome.

If you are interested in joining then please contact the Vicar.

Afternoon Bible Study

An afternoon Bible Study Group which met for the first time on Monday 18th February has proved to be  popular, especially with those  who do not like going out in the evenings!

Having recently completed the course 'Christianity Explored' we are now studying the Gospel of John.  This Gospel was written so that its readers might believe that Jesus is the promised Saviour, the Son of God and that through faith in him we might have eternal life (John 20:31).

The group is very informal and everyone is encouraged to ask questions. We meet on Monday afternoons at 2pm in the Church Hall and others are welcome to come along.

If you are interested in joining then please contact Sue Powell.

Ladies' Guild,

St Michael's has a strong and thriving Ladies' Guild which meets every other Monday (except July and August) in the Church Hall at 7 p.m.

We have speakers to talk on a variety of topics, hold fund raising events for the Church and other church charities.  In addition we have frequent "nights out" to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc. (we don't need much of an excuse).

A recent innovation has been the establishment of a choir, which we hope to continue  in the coming year. If you can sing (or even if you can't) we need you.

We are always happy to welcome new blood and would do our best to make sure you enjoy yourselves.  If you think you might enjoy our type of fun, don’t be shy, come and see.

Elected officers are :-

Leader          Mrs. Beryl Leyshon
Secretary
      Mrs. Margaret Langdon
Treasurer
      Mrs. Arneta Bendall

Details of our meetings  will appear on the events page.

Sewing group

Meetings are held in the Church Hall every Tuesday afternoon about 2 -ish. New members are always welcome.

Are you at a loose end?  Are you wondering what to do - bored with the 'box', fed up with the weather?  Well - a group of friendly ladies meet together to sew altar linens and to embroider for the Church.  Coffee is served with lots of fun and friendship - we also serve biscuits.

Don't think you can do it!  It's surprising what one can do when one puts one's mind to it.  Everyone helps everyone else.  So come along to enjoy this privilege and sew up those loose ends. A great welcome awaits you.
